Treatment Modalities
ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture needles are hair thin, sterile and disposable. Each needle is used one time only and then discarded appropriately. Approximately fifteen acupuncture needles can fit into a hollow hypodermic needle used for injections and giving blood. Acupuncture needles vary in length depending on the location of the body and a person’s physique and are used to promote the smooth flow of Qi and blood throughout the body.
ACUPRESSURE
Acupressure is the application of intermittent pressure applied to specific points on the body to encourage the smooth flow of Qi and blood throughout the body. Similar to acupuncture however needles are not used.
There is an option for tiny press needles to be applied on plasters to prolong the benefits of acupuncture and acupressure after a treatment consultation.
CUPPING
Cupping therapy treatment involves either dry cupping (suction only) and/ or wet cupping (combination of suction and movement).
When there is a build of toxins or when muscles injuries occur, bleeding, deep (internal) bruising and oedema (fluid) forms coagulation of clotting proteins and stagnation.
The vacuum produced by cupping draws up the old non-circulating stagnant blood and sticky fluids from the area, bringing them to the surface and away from the injury. Healthy free circulation is then restored to the affected area, thus creating space for oxygen, living cells and nutrients for faster recovery.
ELECTRO – ACUPUNCTURE
Electro-acupuncture, the application of a pulsating electrical current to acupuncture needles as a means of stimulating the acupoints. This technique is very effective for acute or chronic muscular pain relief , sciatica and much more.
CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE
- Capsules
- Granules
- Raw herbs
- Liquid extracts
EAR PRESS SEEDS
Small black seeds from the Vaccaria plant or tiny silver pellets are secured to the ear with clear tape over specific acupuncture points. They act directly on the acupoint when pressed are also used as time-release treatments.
MOXIBUSTION (Indirect)
Is the application of dried mugwort (artemesiae Vulgaris, or ai ye in Chinese), through several different methods to help increase blood circulation and promote the ability for the body to heal itself.
Moxas come in different shapes and sizes. Most commonly, dried moxa is rolled tightly into a cigar- like stick and is applied indirectly to acupoints on the body. The purpose is to warm the points, clear stagnation and tonify organ and system deficiencies. It is sometimes combined with acupuncture treatments to enhance the benefits of both modalities. But used alone, moxibustion is a beneficial therapy in itself.
